Comprehensive Training for Security Professionals
This 40-hour training course meets the CA State Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) training requirements for security guards and Proprietary Private Security Officers (PSOs). If you are looking to enhance your skills and fulfill the necessary training requirements, this course is for you.
Note: If you do not have a current guard card or PSO license, or if your license is expired, please enroll in the initial 8-hour Power to Arrest Part A course and the in-person Appropriate Use of Force Part B course.
Course Overview
Our 40-hour course package provides in-depth training to ensure you meet all BSIS requirements. This training must be completed within the first six months of employment as a security guard or PSO in California.
Course Fee: $250.00
Important: The certificates from this course are not submitted to BSIS. Instead, BSIS requires all security employers in California to keep these certificates on file for all employees. Upon course completion, you must submit your certificates to your employer.

Security Guard and PSO Training Requirements (California)
The following requirements are from the CA State BSIS Security Guard Training Requirements:
- Initial Training: The Power to Arrest – Part A and Appropriate Use of Force – Part B training must be completed before a Security Guard License (guard card) or PSO license is issued (BPC Sections 7583.6 and 7583.8).
- 40-Hour Training: Within the first six months of licensure, security guards must complete 40 hours of training in the Department of Consumer Affairs’ Skills Training Course for Security Guards and Proprietary Private Security Officers.
- Annual Training: Eight hours of continuing training must be completed annually (BPC 7583.6 and CCR 643).
Administration of Training: The training can be administered by the guard’s employing private patrol operator or a Bureau-certified course provider, such as an instructor with a TFF license.
BSIS Recommendation: All registered security guards and PSOs should maintain documented proof of their completed training. Employers are required to keep records for a minimum of two years. Registrants may need to provide subsequent employers or BSIS with their training records. Therefore, it is recommended that registrants keep copies of all training records.
Training Breakdown
- Initial 8-Hour Course: Required before applying for the Guard Card (8 hours).
- First 30 Days: 8 hours of Mandatory Courses and 8 hours of Elective Courses (16 hours).
- First Six Months: An additional 16 hours of Advanced Security Training (16 hours).
